Introduction |
| Through
the initiative of H.E.Mr. A.N.Ram, former Ambassador of India to Thailand, and
Associate Professor Norant Setabutr Rector of Thammasat University, India Studies
Centre was inaugurated by H.E. Mr.P.V. Narasimha Rao, then Prime Minister of India.
during his historic visit to Thailand, on April 8th, 1993. An initial fund of
10 millions baht was raised by Indian businessmen in Thailand to be the capital
form which interests may be drawn to run the Centre. Its main purpose is to promote
the knowledge of Indian Studies, good understanding and co-operation between the
Thais and Indians. |
Objectives
The
chief objectives of the India Studies Centre are as follow:
1.
To promote reearch and studies on various aspects of India, such as Indian culture,
history, economy, politics, philosophy and literature. |
| 2.
To provide forum for scholars of Indian Studies to exchange their knowledge and
research as well as present their works to the public in form of lectures. pandel
discussions, seminars, symposia and conferences. |
| 3.
To publish research work, studies and academic papers in the form of books, journals
and newsletters to promote the knowledge of Indian Studeis and to create better
understanding between India and Thailand |
| 4.
To encourage academic and cultural exchange among scholars and students of Indian
Studies by establising academic linkages between Thammasat University and universities
in Thailand and abroad. |
| 5.
To co-operate and exchange publications with other centres and institution of
similar nature and interest. |
| 6.
To make the data collection on India related topics. |

| Organization |
| The
India Studies Centre is attached to Thammasat University.
Its Office is on th 4th Floor of the former Library Building. The Centre is headed
by the Director who administers with the assistance of the Executive
Secretary and the policy is guided by the Executive Committees. |
